Pukaki Creek Streets Strategy

Because of the high use of our streets by children and teenagers in the area and also the number of vehicle movements occurring on the street we need to be careful that we don't have another death (the first being a motorcycle accident in the beginning of 2006). The roads themselves are dangerously designed with blind hills and a free flowing roundabout that allows vehicles to move too fast.

We are proposing that Council:

  • place signs warning of children and wildlife in the streets,

  • Install Speed humps to reduce traffic sopeed near the dangerous blind corners and humps

  • Install a public rubbish bin and a parking area nearby so that passive activity can be localised around rubbish bins to reduce garbage in the streets.

Improving the Street's character

Being responsible Parents

Many of the neighbourhood kids are swinging on trees until they break, are running out on to the roads unsupervised and are throwing their rubbish on to the road area. As parents we need to make sure that this stops.

Front garden planting

There are some incredibly well landscape designed front gardens and we shoudl encourage each other to continue to improve. Look at our trees strategy for more info on the kind of trees that are well suited for plantings.
